ENGINEERING FOR CORROSION PREVENTION

Synthesis Energy focuses on providing economical and reliable energy solutions. Our approach is to fully understand your situation through detailed analysis and identify the preferred solutions, working closely with you in the process. Depending on your preferences we can prepare procurement documentation to access a wide range of suppliers or recommend companies that have proven and reliable solutions based on our past experience. Our range of offerings includes:

  1. COST EFFECTIVE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ENERGY SOLUTIONS

Our parntership with a national waste management company allows us to provide waste reduction and handling solutions, while our proven waste-to-energy technologies enable us to offer:

  • Electrical Power (200 kW to multiples of 5mW)

  • Heat from steam and waste heat for process

  • Production of light fuel oils or diesel from low value plastic wastes

  • Biogas production plants utilizing organic wastes

  • Production of syngas from general waste / biomass as a lower cost R/GJ and or greener alternative to current heating fuel costs

  • Provide energy which is cheaper than current suppliers and environmentally friendly, utilizing various waste to energy technologies

    2. INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS FOR         LPG  AND NATURAL GAS

We provide independent management of infrastructure design and installation, the sourcing of gas supply options to enable gas fuel operations on site.

   3. TURNKEY SOLUTIONS FOR POWER GENERATION using high and medium speed diesel or gas generators. This can include e-houses for switch gear and transformers, with all plants fully factory acceptance tested to minimise on site delays. Cost reductions for power plants can be achieved by integrating the following options:

  • Fuel: plastic waste to diesel that significantly lowers the cost of power

  • Fuel: Gas supply when available

  • CHP and absorption chillers to maximise fuel energy

  • Solar hybrid to reduce power costs while enabling security of supply with genset reliability

   4. INNOVATIVE AND PROVEN SOLUTIONS TO REMOVE CO2 in waste streams and use it generate products with high revenue returns.

5. ENERGY STORAGE SOLUTIONS to store low cost energy that can be used during peak power cost periods and provide standby power.

Synthesis Energy has considerable experience in the field of structural condition audits, having  serviced the following industries, among others:

  • Mining    Paper mills

  • Sugar processing

  • Petroleum refining

  • Power generation

  • Chemical plant Real estate

Audits are conducted visually to document the condition of each structure to prioritize the required interventions and as a basis for the development of cost/priority models.

The audits are useful for the following:

  • To enable the Client to provide a safe working environment for staff and in so doing meet Responsible Care and EHS objectives.

  • As an input to maintenance planning and CAPEX requests.

The audit process divides the site into "survey blocks" (e.g. Ground Floor  of  Plant  A, etc.)  and structural
beams, columns, roof is  captured  for each structural element category, including:

  • current condition

  • most likely failure scenario

  • consequence of failure

  • credible failure time frame nature of remedial intervention.

This information is then used to generate a report on the prioritised maintenance issues, presented primarily in spreadsheet format for ease of presentation, "digestion" and discussion, providing insight to management on the priorities and typical issues as the starting point to a strategic maintenance planning process a baseline to monitor the implementation of such
strategy as well as ongoing deterioration issues.

If combined with cost estimates, the reports also
facilitate the development of budget frameworks.

Synthesis Energy has extensive experience in this area having undertaken work in a wide range of environments, including chemical, food processing, chlor alkali, power generation, mining, oil refining, paper mills, hotels, office blocks, residential, etc. Services that can be provided in this regard include:

  • Materials of construction selection.

  • Specification of specialist coating and lining systems (equipment, structures, floors,  bunded areas, tanks, anti-static systems, bonded and debond ed systems, etc.).

  • Engineering to mitigate corrosion.

Plant designs generally give attention to the materials of construetion of the process equipment without giving the same attention to structural corrosion mitigation (usually limited to application of standard coatings specifications). Our experience with corrosive environments and structural audits enables us to assess plant designs so as to provide professional advice and design enhancements to cost effectively mitigate corrosion. Such corrosion mitigation solutions often require only simple design consider ations with little or no capital implications, but result ing in considerable improvement to the durability and maintainability of the associated structures/equipment.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT: EXECUTION & DELIVERY

WATER SUPPLY

South Africa is a water stressed country. Better management of waste water and the creation of alternative sources of water is required to avoid "water load shedding". Synthesis Energy is currently involved in a study to provide potable water by partnering with a company that provides world class reverse osmosis desalination plants with numerous reference sites to validate the technology. These systems have low energy requirements and small footprints. The potable and process water solutions offered vary in size from 80 m3/day to upwards of 56000 m3/day. These systems can be integrated with the above energy solutions depending on water costs and risks of supply.

WATER TREATMENT

Water and energy are inextricably linked, and install ing carefully planned wastewater treatment technolo gy can vastly reduce costs of treatment by providing the appropriate quality of water for the end user without using excess energy. Our innovative approach to water treatment will also see you spending less in capital and operating costs to achieve the same quality and quantity of treated wastewater. Through our deep water management experience and coupled
with our support partners we can design cutting edge technology solutions or install very effective natural systems to remove the liabilities associated with polluted waste water. We will tackle any treatment problem from the simplest solids screen to those of complex chemical and regulatory challenges.
Aqeous Forensics

Tracking and tracing water and chemical constituent loading can be a tough challenge. We have experience in tracing water pollution sources, confirming flow paths, and providing detailed forensic reports on source apportionment, flow path dilutions, chemical element front movement, and surface water impact industrial water on surface water and groundwater we use trace concentrations and, through our partners, are able to provide complex predictive modeling.

Synthesis Energy has both local waste management and  overseas  waste handling expert  partners in the treatment of various types of solid wastes. We can provide economically viable and environmentally friendly solutions to address a client 's waste challenge. Our partner in Waste Management (BEE Level  2)  is  proficient   in  separating  at  source  and optimising the recycling value chain. This means both lower  costs  and  minimising  waste  disposed  at land fills. Our waste-to-energy solutions mean further enhancement of the waste value stream.
